@sooma Sei gewarnt, es kommt teilweise etwas abenteuerlich rüber. Die Übersetzung ist nicht von mir sondern wurde auf Reddit eingestellt.
- The interviewer (José Alberto de Carvalho - JAC) asked Gonçalo Amaral (GA) if Christian Brueckner (CB) was the pedo GA was referring to in the Maddie podcast, a year ago. GA answered he only said what was going to happen; who the pedo is doesn't really matter, could have been any other that fitted the narrative. He also said that many pedos have been brought up over the years and this one happened to be at Luz and some german vehicle was seen so now it's the germans who are investigating a german. He also added that if this line of investigation fails, another pedo will simply be picked up and brought to the spotlight.
- GA says CB is almost perfect as a suspect. The only missing thing for it to be completely perfect is if he was dead.
- Regardless, he says CB's just another one in a string of suspects to fit the theory with the least amount of evidence: the kidnapping
- Gives a lot of credit to the Smith sighting. Said that the Smiths stated they were 80-90% sure it was Gerry McCann;
- Says his book is not a theory. It is the report of the investigation he conducted with the conclusions they had at the time, which he says are not definitive as he was interrupted before he could have more evidence. Also remarks that the Scotland Yard went to Portugal everytime there was a court procedure regarding the legal dispute between him and the McCanns over the publication of the book (doesn't say what he is suggesting by that);
- Says the investigation will never end until everyone from the Tapas group is properly investigated and interrogated. Accuses them of abandonment of their children for the duration of those holidays and bashes the idea that they were safe: "if they were safe, Madeleine wouldn't have disappeared";
- Questions why the McCanns immediately thought of a kidnapping by a pedo ring. Says that if Maddie was kidnapped by a pedo ring, she would have been dead because usually children kidnapped by pedos who turn up alive are preteens (8-9). Finds it strange why they didn't think of Madeleine having wandered around or even a revenge kidnapping or for ransom. Said witnesses heard Gerry on the phone that very night saying there were many pedos in Portugal even going as far as being aware of the Casa Pia scandal. (Personal take: he is suggesting that the parents wanted the narrative of a pedo ring as the main possible explanation to draw suspicion away from them);
- JAC asks him if CB might have been responsible for whatever happened. GA says that first there must be proven there was a kidnapping. To him, the only proven thing there is is that every Tapas member lied about the check system, and the only reason they went to the apartments was to use the bathroom, not to check on the kids, because the bathroom at the restaurant was not in the best condition. They would state to the receptionist they were going to the bathroom, not checking the children. He says they stated this and it is in the files;
- He says they tampered with Maddie's room, staging a kidnapping and that's why they gave conflicting statements regarding the window. He says there were no signs of a break in, meaning that the only way to enter the room would've been with a copy of the key (he says they investigated this thoroughly and cleared that option) or by the sliding door (didn't say they cleared that possibility). He stated those lies lead the police to waste a lot of time in false leads, like Robert Murat's, but at least Murat's lead brought something positive: the Smiths stated the man they saw wasn't Murat, it was Gerry.
- Again, says those parents neglected the children for almost a week and that it is very telling that Maddie was heard crying for an hour one/two days before around 10PM and no one went there. Thus, the checking system was not in place.
- Says there should have been a reconstruction (not sure is this is the correct word, basically he means having them all at the scene and re do everything) of the movements the tapas 9 claimed to assert the correct timeline. Says the tapas group always refused to do it. Accuses the media, particularly the british of never having attempted to interview anyone from the group but the McCanns. It frustrated him that he couldn't hold them in Portugal for further investigation. (Edit: the word is re enactment, not reconstruction)
- Says the investigators were always being followed by the press, not letting them do their jobs properly.
- Says that, at the time, the investigation team didn't have access to any records linking CB to burglary or pedophilia, only gas theft. Says a team went to look for him in 2007 but doesn't know if they spoke to him or not, because there were hundreds of investigations upon known pedos and CB didn't seem like a POI. He added that they were unaware of the american women (because that crime was only solved in 2018) who was raped but even if they were, that doesn't fit the profile of a pedo (she was 72). (This part of the interview is almost unintelligible because it's a back and forth where both GA and JAC drift a little; he doesn't really explain how CB was cleared back in 2007).
- Said the volkswagen westfalia or the pictures of it released by the german police were somehow tampered with. He then proceeded to show pictures of the same (presumably) van, taken in 2019, in Portugal, before the van being taken to Germany for analysis (he showed a picture where the van had some "monsters" drawn). He claims that the van, with those goofy drawings, would surely be noticed in Luz back in 2007. So this is his theory: the germans somehow know/suspect that the van didn't have the goofy drawing in 2007 cause it would have been noticed so they removed the drawings (presumably having been added by an owner post CB, who used it to store and carry fruits, like figs) so that they could release to the press a picture of the van as it would have been back in 2007. He says maybe german authorities are trying to get someone to come forward as having seen the van in 2007 to maybe build a case.
- Wonders why CB's pics circulating are recent. He suggests they should be releasing photos of him back in 2007, because people's appearance change overtime.
- Wonders if the german police will retest ALL of the biological samples, meaning those found in the apartment, outside (near the patio, I think), and in the rented car;
- Reminds that is was the British police who suggested and then sent the dogs. He states that portuguese police always maintained the possibility of "an accident" and that the "homicide" theory was only suggested by the british.
- Says that the "saliva" sample that has been brought up again and the Germans supposedly want to investigate again is a false lead because it has been established it came from previous occupants of the apartment and it is a mix of baby's saliva and breast milk, both of them identified. Also, that sample came from the bed near the window, not Maddie's bed.
- Hopes that the German investigation will be open to new leads, specially if they re examine the samples with new techniques that weren't available 13 years ago, particularly one piece of hair that was found in the rented car that could belong to Maddie.
- Ends the interview with the "inside info" that a colleague of his (maybe someone involved in the investigation, I don't know) believes the case will be solved.
