On the two-year anniversary of the death of Michael Jackson ... gunshots were fired just a few houses away from where fans were getting set to tour the home MJ lived in during his stint in Las Vegas -- and law enforcement sources tell us ... it was a dog that caught a bullet.
According to a witness on scene, the shots were fired approximately 3-4 houses away from the where the MJ tour was going down.http://www.tmz.com/2011/06/25/michael-jackson-death-anniversary-home-las-vegas-shots-fired/
There were already cops in the area for the a minor disturbance at the Jackson event (see photo above, taken before shots were fired) and we're told they rushed over to where the shots came from.
Law enforcement sources tell us ... an officer was attacked by a dog, and had to shoot it to get it to stop. No word yet on the condition of the dog.
UPDATE: We're told the dog -- a black pit bull around 40-50 pounds -- was NOT killed and was taken to a nearby vet.
Hundreds of Michael Jackson fans made the pilgrimage to Neverland Ranch today to commemorate the anniversary of his death -- even though there was no actual event planned.
We're told some fans camped outside the gates of Neverland on Figueroa Mountain Road last night. The fans show up in waves throughout the day -- gathering for a bit, bringing flowers, holding signs, singing songs ... then they eventually leave.http://www.tmz.com/2011/06/25/michael-jackson-death-anniversary-neverland-ranch-fans-gathering/
MJ passed away two years ago today.
A police officer investigating trespassers at Michael Jackson's former Las Vegas home shot and wounded a pit bull Saturday after it broke through the fence of a nearby residence and attacked him.http://www.lvrj.com/news/officer-shoots-pit-bull-at-michael-jackson-s-former-home-in-las-vegas-124547334.html
Las Vegas police Lt. James Weiskopf said patrol officers were dispatched about 12:40 p.m. to 2710 Palomino Lane, near Rancho Drive and Charleston Boulevard, where the pop star formerly lived.
A tour of the home had been scheduled to remember Jackson on the second anniversary of his death, but some fans had entered the property early.
About an hour after officers arrived, Weiskopf said police noticed a man with a warrant for his arrest walking toward Shetland Road, a nearby side street.
When one officer attempted to follow the man, a pit bull broke through a backyard on Shetland and attacked the officer.
The officer shot and wounded the dog. The homeowners were notified and took the animal to a veterinarian.
The suspect was not located.
"After the shooting, we weren't concerned anymore about him (the suspect)," Weiskopf said. "We just wanted to make sure the family was aware and to make sure the animal got the care it needed."
The dog's condition was not immediately known.
About 100 Michael Jackson fans were among the first wave of curiousity seekers who saw the King of Pop's last Las Vegas residence Saturday on Palomino Lane. The Spanish style residence was opened to the public for the first time Saturday. GLENDALE, Calif. (KABC) -- Fans paid their respects to Michael Jackson on Saturday, observing the two-year anniversary of the King of Pop's death.http://abclocal.go.com/kabc/story?section=news/entertainment&id=8214490 (Archiv-Version vom 01.07.2011)
A crowd gathered at Jackson's final resting place at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Glendale.
They brought flowers and also flags to represent their different backgrounds, but they all share a common bond - a love for Michael Jackson.
"He just wanted to make the world a better place, and now that he's gone, that lives on through the fans who love him. We're carrying that message and his mission through us," said fan Linda Higgins.
Members of the group, the Michael Jackson Tribute Portrait, gathered to visit the mausoleum and honor the King of Pop. Fans of all ages and walks of life paid their respects.
"To see so many people representing so many countries here, he would just love it. I know he's looking down loving it," said another fan Valmai Owens.
Another fan Cynthia Brayboy visited Forest Lawn on her own. She said Michael Jackson was a big part of her life. She showed Eyewitness News a photo she took of Joe Jackson visiting his son's resting place before fans began to arrive.
"To us, Michael was just like a pop star, and the King of Pop and this worldwide figure, but looking at Mr. Jackson and his eyes and how sad he was, he was somebody's son. That really touched me," Brayboy said.
This year, the crowd was much smaller than it was on the first anniversary of his death. But to Felesha Wilson, who wore a custom-made Michael Jackson outfit to his resting place Saturday, those honoring him on the second year anniversary are the true fans.
"The people that are here, god bless them and I appreciate it. Me, I'm going to Hollywood and I'm doing everything. I'm Michael-ing all day," Wilson said. "He is the man. Always was and always will be."
Michael Jackson fans were allowed to visit the mausoleum until the end of visiting hours at 4:30 p.m.

We Are The World 25 For Haiti - Official Video

Recorded on February 1st, 2010, in the same studio as the original 25 years earlier (Henson Recording Studios, formerly A&M Recording Studios) "We Are The World 25 For Haiti", in which Jones and Richie serve as executive producers and producers, was created in collaboration with executive producers Wyclef Jean, Randy Phillips and Peter Tortorici; producers Humberto Gattica and RedOne; and co-producers Rickey Minor, Mervyn Warren and Patti Austin to benefit the Haitian earthquake relief efforts and the rebuilding of Haiti.
Academy Award-winning writer-director Paul Haggis (Crash, Million Dollar Baby), whose own personal efforts as well as those of Artists for Peace and Justice have already saved countless lives in Haiti, filmed the private recording session to create the accompanying video and behind-the-scenes production, and serves as Film Director and as an Executive Producer with Jones, Richie, Jean, Phillips and Tortorici.
The 25th Anniversary recording features over 80 artists and performers. The recording of We Are The World 25 For Haiti embodied the same enthusiasm, sense of purpose and generosity as the original recording 25 years ago. Every one of the artists who participated, regardless of genre or generation, walked into the room with their hearts and souls completely open to coming together to help the people of Haiti.
