Michael Jackson's Estate has just made a huge deal with Pepsi -- the company whose 1984 commercial arguably ruined his life, and some say it's a deal with the devil.

You'll recall, MJ's hair famously caught fire during a pyrotechnic mishap while filming the commercial -- causing severe burns on his scalp that led MJ to become a hardcore prescription drug addict ... and that addiction eventually led him to Dr. Conrad Murray.

The MJ Estate feels Pepsi is the right company to join forces with for a couple of reasons. First, Michael himself worked with Pepsi twice after the incident, once in 1988 and again in 1991, so the singer obviously didn't hold a grudge. And a spokesperson for the estate tells us, "We're here to market the re-release of the 'Bad' album and Pepsi is the most effective place to do it."

But lots of people blame the Pepsi shoot for putting MJ on a drug-fueled path of self-destruction -- including one of the singer's former managers Frank Cascio, who said MJ was introduced to Demerol (a heroin-like opioid) following the accident ... to help deal with the pain.

The Jackson/Pepsi promotion will vary country-to-country -- but will include a TV commercial, special edition cans with Jackson's image, and chances to win downloadable remixes of Jackson's songs.

Die Nachlassverwalter von Michael Jackson haben laut dem Onlineportal „TMZ“ einen Megadeal mit dem Limonaden-Riesen „Pepsi“ abgeschlossen!

Die Seite spricht sogar vom Pakt mit dem Teufel, da der Konzern maßgeblich an dem Verfall des King Of Pop beteiligt gewesen sein soll.

Alles geht zurück auf das Jahr 1984, als Jacksons Haare Feuer gefangen haben. Die Pyrotechnik hat ihm Verbrennungen am Kopf verursacht, weshalb er Schmerzmedikamente nehmen musste. Ein Teil vom Puzzle, das ihn später in die Abhängigkeit geführt haben soll.

Der neue Zusammenschluss mit Pepsi wird diverse Promotion-Aktionen beinhalten. Darunter eine TV-Werbung, Dosen in Sonderedition (mit Michael Jackson Bild) und die Chance, Remixe zum Runterladen zu gewinnen.

Nach dem Unfall soll der King noch zweimal mit dem Unternehmen zusammengearbeitet haben und offenbar keinen Groll auf die Herrschaften gehegt haben. Deswegen finden sie den Deal nicht verwerflich. Was meint ihr dazu?

Despite what the media spun about Pepsi & Michael Jackson in 1993, fact is, Michael Jackson cancelled the remaining dates on his Dangerous Tour due to his addiction to painkillers. Pepsi was sponsoring the tour. With no more tour, nothing to sponsor, contract was over. The media used the current accusations against Michael at the time as a spin to say that was the reason why Pepsi are Michael were no longer business partners. You've fallen & believed their trick.

Later in 2008, Michael Jackson again teamed up with Pepsi for a Superbowl Ad for Pepsi's 'SoBe Life'Water.

If Michael Jackson was fine to work with Pepsi again a year prior to his death, why is it a problem for certain fans? Simply because those on the anti-Branca campaign dont like that this was a Branca/McClain business decision. I dont agree with all his actions either but this business agreement with Pepsi is actually brilliant as the Michael Jackson Estate are using the original company who sponsored Michael Jackson during the Bad Era to not only promote Michael Jackson & Bad 25 but also Pepsi. It also too provides an avenue for the younger generation to listen to Michael's music with a modern sound via Skrillex etc, without angering the purist fans who wish to have a release solely of Michael own work.

@TeamMichael777 Pepsi only ever sponsored MJ for his tours. No tour, no sponsor. MJ was fine w/ Pepsi in 08 so why arent you? Simply Branca.

Michael Jackson geht wieder auf Tour – und zwar als Werbegesicht von Pepsi. Der US-Getränkehersteller gab einen Deal mit der Nachlassverwaltung des verstorbenen "King of Pop" bekannt.


Clever oder geschmacklos? Pepsi wirbt wieder mit Michael Jackson

Drei Jahre nach seinem Tod wird Michael Jackson noch einmal zum weltweiten Werbestar. Pepsi hat angekündigt, eine neue Kampagne mit dem einstigen "King of Pop" starten zu wollen.

Dazu sollen eine Milliarde Cola-Dosen mit der Skizze eines tanzenden Jackson auf den Markt kommen, wie der Limonadenhersteller in Purchase bei New York mitteilte. Auch Werbefilmchen wird es geben und eine Downloadaktion mit Jackson-Hits.

Kern der Kampagne ist der 25. Geburtstag von Jacksons Erfolgsalbum "Bad". Die Platte war im August 1987 erschienen und hat sich mehr als 30 Millionen Mal verkauft. Gleich fünf Singles kamen in die Top 100. Jackson und Pepsi hatten über Jahrzehnte eine einträgliche Werbepartnerschaft.

Bei einem Dreh für einen Pepsi-Spot war es im Januar 1984 aber auch zu einem folgenschweren Unfall gekommen: Die Pyrotechnik setzte Jacksons Haar in Brand, der 25-Jährige erlitt Verbrennungen zweiten Grades.

My most beloved memory, however, was watching him perform "Human Nature" every night from the side of the stage. There was something so genuinely vulnerable in his voice on that song, and watching the freedom with which he danced, doing the moves he invented only made me more keenly aware of the greatness I was blessed to be witnessing.
