Google Brille/Google Glass

stellen.

.Google Glass is a Piracy Threat
The Scenario : Imagine that you are in a coffee shop sipping your double shot latte and having a private conversation and the person behind you decides to record your conversations using Google Glass. This conversation is later uploaded to YouTube or another Social Networking Site.
I will not argue the fact that this is highly plausible but the conspiracy theorists forget the following facts:
Everyone has a smartphone or a tablet these days. All of these smartphones/tablets have very sensitive microphones which do a fine job of recording. All evidence about the microphone on the Google Glass shows that the microphone is not overly sensitive, there is simply no reason for it.
People often forget that most public places are already under surveillance by the business owner and in many cases employ the use of Audio recording as well as video recording. There is currently no “EULA” or “Privacy Policy” that is agreed to upon entering a public location.
As many security professionals will agree to is that there are times and places to discuss sensitive information and a coffee shop or a public place is NOT one of them. There will always be people who will utilize new technologies to take advantage of others, Just because you exercised poor judgement about having a private conversation in public, don’t blame Google Glass.
In the event that you are in a private setting such as a closed door meeting, it is acceptable to ask anyone wearing a Google Glass to remove it for the meeting, much in the same way that you can ask someone to remove their sunglasses while in a meeting. This will not insult the owner of the Google Glass at all.
Google Glass is Sending All of My Content to Google
The Scenario : News outlets and conspiracy theorists are saying that Google Glass has the ability to record ALL sounds and take pictures using the camera and send them to Google in real time. All the data is then stored in Google’s cloud for their own use.
This is one of the most ridiculous things that I have ever heard of in my life and is far from practical. In order to send real time audio and photos, the Google Glass would need to consume A LOT of mobile data on a users mobile connection. For those who have a data limit, you would notice a massive overage fee on your next cell phone bill.
Lets pretend that Google did find a new technology to magically transport the audio and video to their offices without using any of your mobile data, there is not a workforce large enough to actually comb through this data. Even if such a workforce did exist, I am sure many of them would leak this out to the media. There is also a risk to companies who may be in possession of select photographs such as “adult” photos without consent of the person in the photo.
Lets face it, Google has a lot to lose if something like this ever happens. The public distrust alone would bankrupt Google if they were found to be housing user information without consent.
Google Glass will make Driving Dangerous
The Scenario : A Virginia Lawmaker is proposing a bill to ban the use of Google Glass while driving as it would lead to more accidents.
I would argue that using Google Glass may even make driving safer. Applications can be developed to alert the driver of unsafe conditions (such as following too closely and speeding).
Google Glass is Using a New Bone Conducting Speaker to Interface with users Brains
The Scenario : Google filed a patent for a brand new technology that allows the Project Glass to send micro vibrations into a persons brain that we interpret as sound, what’s to stop them from inserting thoughts into our heads the same way.
First : There are three problems with this statement;
Google Glass IS NOT sending vibrations into your brain, rather your skull (hence the “bone” in “bone conducting”). Your skull has a set of bones in your inner ear that are able to pick up and interpret the micro vibrations as sound.
This technology is not new, it has been embedded in kids toothbrushes for decades. Teeth are bones and allow the musical toothbrushes to let your kids listen to music while brushing.
It is IMPOSSIBLE to put content directly in someones brain via any means.
I often hear about Google Glass employing hypnotics to serve subliminal ads to the end user to buy a product or try a service. Although Hypnosis does exist, professionals are in agreement that it is impossible to hypnotize a person against their will to insert thoughts/memories into their head.
Google Glass was Created to Bombard the Wearer with Ads
The Scenario : Imagine walking into store and have ads flashing in your face based on the products you are looking at.
Let me ask you a simple question to hopefully put this to rest. How quickly would you return the Google Glass if it flashed ads in your face every time you looked at a product?
To answer my above question, I would immediately return the Glass if this was a feature. Conspiracy Theorists love stating that everything that Google makes is designed to spy on or flash ads to the user. When was the last time you saw a pop-up ad from Google? NEVER. When was the last time you saw ads on the Android Platform (not 3rd party applications/web pages)? What makes you think that this will be any different?
Google Glass has a GPS to Track the Wearer’s Location
The Scenario : Google Glass has a GPS radio that was designed to allow Google to spy on the users and track their locations.
It is true, there is a GPS in the Google Glass but is it for tracking your actions? NO! The GPS is used for Navigation (much in the same way a car GPS is used) and to help you find locations of businesses in your area when you ask for one. For example if you are looking for a place to eat within walking distance of your location.
Location Tracking is one of those commonly misunderstood functions of mobile phones and conspiracy theorists LOVE to say that Google is collecting your data to track you. I hate to break it to you but EVERY cell phone manufacturer does this and dare I say that Google is the most transparent company out there. Apple tracks users location to power their “Find My iPhone” system and “other purposes”. Blackberry does the same as Apple as does Microsoft. GIVE ME A BREAK.
Google Glass was Designed to Transform the Wearer into a Cyborg or Zombie
The Scenario : By using technologies such as Google Glass, a user is turned into a Cyborg or Zombie and is no longer capable of making their own decisions. They will require information to be sent from Google to them in order to make up their minds.
Again, there is not a technology on earth that allows for information to be transmitted directly into a persons brain.
I will also argue that anyone who listens to conspiracy theorists, who are claiming to provide “facts” on a product that does not exist yet, also could be defined as a Zombie.
In closing, it is critical for users to get the facts before coming to their own conclusions. Google Glass has a unique opportunity to enhance the world and make life easier for you. Like any tool, Google Glass has the ability to be abused but none of this abuse will come from Google.
