Religions nowadays! Senseful or Senseless? - Boon or Bane?

There are many different points of view.

One is:

Religion is like a penis!

It's ok to have one
It's ok to be proud of it

However

Do not pull out it in public
Do not push it on children
Do not write laws with it
Do not think with it

Furthermore I agree with you, but I would even go one step further. I would say religion is bad, because it is more about rules, laws and so on, then about faith. So, faith is good, but what we do with faith, namely creating religions of it, is bad..

Exactly, the religions with rules are absolutley bad. All or the most religions have rules. In my view, this rules are nonsense. Which god will do this? Which god will punish you, because you born in a family, which are follower of the "wrong" religion. This would absolutly childlike, for a force that create this complex world and feels.

I fully agree with you. Religion is as much useful as dog shit on the bottom of someones shoe.

I am an agnostic and there's no better way to deal with the possibility of the existence of gods, higher power or whatever you want to call such entities. If there is something like that, then we won't be it's only creation and furthermore this higher power will not be willing to bend itself to gods and religions made up by people. In fact, that would be rather silly for an omnipotent being.

What if I told you that YOU are blinded and misguided? That you are blinded by some ancient fairy tales made up by some folks that were frightened by natural forces and weren't able to explain them with other things than gods?

Your kind believes that all people go to hell who doesn't believe in Jesus Christ and your stuck-up god but what will happen to those who never heard of your silly religion in the first place or lived well before that Jesus guy?

However, I do not fear the "judgement" of some made up god, because there cannot exist a god who behaves like some moron christians expect it to behave.

I don't even have to exaggarate things, one simple example is enough.
Imagine you are a father/mother, your child has cancer. The doctor says it is going to die. The person who is not faithful will (or has to) accept this fact and live with it.
The person who believes (no matter which religion) can pray, will pray, and still carry some hope. You'll fight and don't give up. Which way is better?

I even would describe myself, as a believing person, a person who believes in something like god.

However, faith is not equal to religion and the deepest believer isn't necessarily religious.

Calm down. I like the message of Jesus and I'm officially listed as a catholic. Anyhow, I wouldn't describe myself as religious but believing. Jesus didn't write the bible, Jesus wouldn't ever write a bible. I do good things because I want and not because I'd like to receive any heavenly reward. Think twice. What would Jesus say?

The thing is...a non-believing person will have to accept the doc's word. If he says there is no way your child can be saved he won't even think about having faith as he'll have to accept the fact

Well, I don't believe in the description of god, as it's commonly used in the bible or the koran or the tanach. But as I've mentioned before, God is transcendental, even the bible says, God moves in mysterious ways and I guess that most people who claim not to believe in God, just don't believe in the oversimplified imagination of God. Once these oversimplified imaginations were helpful to transport an easy but effective message to the uneducated, superstitious people. Nowadays most people are able to write, to read, have a few numeracy skills, they know some basics about natural sciences, wouldn't claim that most people are really educated today, but it's enough to decline the old imaginations of God.

So, you don't believe in God or do you not believe in a oversimplified imagination of God?
