I highly doubt that. Anyway, the example with the Sun was a bit too far in the future, I'll give you that. Let's take asteroids. On big-ass rock from space was responsible for the extinction of the dinosaurs. They never knew what hit 'em. Mankind, however, could send an atomic bomb to such a rock on collision course with Earth and alter it's course with a blast.

I know, you are right. I was merely avoiding the propblem by mocking it. I have to agree that if humans weren't inhabitating this planet, an asteroid big enough could possibly wipe out all life on this planet. But since that isn't the case, it's purely hypothetical.
