"A thousand suns" bezieht sich auf Robert Oppenheimers Gedanken beim Anblick der Explosion der ersten Atombombe. Er bezog sich auf eine Schrift der Hindus. In einem TV-Interview zitiert er die Bhagavad Gita ein zweites Mal:

"We knew the world would not be the same. A few people laughed, a few people cried. Most people were silent. I remembered the line from the Hindu scripture, the Bhagavad Gita; Vishnu is trying to persuade the Prince that he should do his duty and, to impress him, takes on his multi-armed form and says, 'Now I am become Death, the destroyer of worlds.' I suppose we all thought that, one way or another."

Klaus Nomi meint mit "Simple Man" sich selbst. Er bekannte sich offen zu seiner Homosexualität, die damals in den frühen 80ern noch weniger akzeptiert war als heute.

Der "Cold Song" den Tremont ein paar Seiten zuvor eingestellt hat, ist aus einer Oper von Purcell. In dem Stück geht es um den Sieg der Liebe über den Winter. 
Die Zeile "Let me, let me freeze again to death" scheint makaber angesichts dessen, dass Klaus Nomi damals bereits vom Tod schwer gezeichnet war. Er starb 1983 als einer der ersten AIDS Toten.
