Ray Liotta’s passing is a hard one to stomach, and I have no word for it other than shocked. I always come back to this scene as it is my favorite of not just the entirety of Goodfellas but in film period. It’s not only the genius implementation of Layla or Martin Scorsese’s immaculate direction, but also mostly cause of Ray Liotta’s brilliant narration. Because of how he was able to give a rundown of the events leading up to this huge turning point of the film, he was able to convey the emotion and urgency of the situation Henry was going through. He made summing up the plot with his brilliant acting natural and investing! His composure and frantic energy are why he became my favorite narrator to any film. Ray as Henry will always be reminder of his talents, his passion, and his dedication to the craft of filmmaking. His impact is immeasurable and my condolences goes out to his family, friends, and loved ones. He will be missed tremendously.
